Oxcarbazepine cas number 28721-07-5 is a novel antiepileptic drug that is a 10-keto derivative of carbamazepine. It is suitable for adults and children over the age of 5 to treat partial and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It owns well tolerated and has little interaction between drugs, and is gradually replacing traditional antiepileptic drugs alone or in combination. Oxcarbazepine is rapidly absorbed orally and rapidly degraded into the active metabolite 10,11-dihydro-10-hydroxycarbazepine (MHD) through the gastrointestinal tract. In the past few years, some countries in the world have adopted oxcarbazepine instead of carbamazepine for the treatment of refractory epilepsy, intractable trigeminal neuralgia and affective disorder, and achieved good results.
The precise mechanism by which oxcarbazepine cas 28721-07-5 and its metabolite MHD produce antiepileptic effects is currently unknown. However, in vitro electrophysiological studies have shown that oxcarbazepine and MHD can block voltage-sensitive sodium channels, leading to over-stimulation of neuromembrane stabilization, repetitive inhibition of neuronal firing, and a reduction in prominent nerve impulse transmission. These effects are important as preventing epilepsy from spreading in the undamaged brain. In addition, the anti-epileptic effect of oxcarbazepine may also be attributed to an increase in potassium conductivity and a calcium channel regulation of high voltage activation. There is no significant interaction between oxcarbazepine or MHD and brain neurotransmitters or regulatory receptors.
Oxcarbazepine 28721-07-5 is almost insoluble in water or ethanol, slightly soluble in methanol, acetone or dichloromethane; slightly soluble in chloroform, almost insoluble in 0.1mol/L hydrochloric acid solution or 0.1mol/L sodium hydroxide solution .
